Best Candidates
There are many factors that can determine how straight your teeth are: sucking your thumb as a child, genetics, losing a tooth or several teeth, or a traumatic accident to the face. Misaligned teeth can lead to other oral health problems, like dental malocclusion (a bad bite), ground-down enamel, trouble speaking and chewing, as well as toothaches and TMD (temporomandibular joint disorder). If your dental team sees signs or symptoms of one of these issues at your dental exam, we might suggest an orthodontic treatment, like Invisalign®.
Orthodontic treatments like Invisalign® are wonderful for both adults and teens who would like straighter teeth but without the hassle and appearance of metal orthodontics. Even though they should be worn most of the time, Invisalign® can be removed in order to eat and brush your teeth, plus for playing sports and special events. Far more discreet than metal braces, other people won't know that you're wearing your Invisalign® trays.
What to Expect
Once we have created your treatment plan, your first set of Invisalign® trays will be created using digital impressions taken by your MINT dentistry team. When they are ready, you will come back to get your first set of aligners and instructions from your dentist. You should use your aligners at least 20 – 22 hours each day for the system to work with the goal of removing them only for eating and cleaning. After about two weeks, you will move to your second set of aligners as they gently shift your teeth into their proper position. You should plan to attend appointments as recommend by your dentist so we can check your progress and have more digital x-rays taken that will be sent to Invisalign® so they can make your new aligners. How long you will need to wear your aligners will depend on the original position of your teeth and your goals. Most patients wear aligners for around a year.
Treatment Aftercare
As soon as you are done with your Invisalign® treatment, it's important to keep your teeth in place while your gums and jaw adjust. Invisalign® Vivera® retainers are designed with the same comfortable materials as the aligner trays to help keep your teeth in place after your treatment is complete. Your retainer is custom made at the Invisalign® dental lab based on digital x-rays taken once your treatment is complete. We will explain how often to use your retainer and care instructions after it's returned to our facility. We will continue to monitor your teeth alignment and bite during your yearly dental examinations to make sure your teeth don't move.
The MINT Commitment
In many cases, at least a part of your costs for an Invisalign® treatment is paid by dental insurance. We will get more information on your specific policy coverage and determine your personal cost. Our office takes most payment methods for patients who don't have dental insurance. At your consultation, your dentist can estimate your treatment costs and ways to make your treatment fit your budget, including low-interest medical financing and flexible payment plans. It is important to keep in mind that a healthy smile is an invaluable asset. We are committed to helping you fit your dental care and treatments into your budget.
